Actor seeks permission to withdraw restitution petition

Chennai, June 18 (UNI) Tamil filmstar T Prashanth today filed a memo before a Family Court, seeking permission to withdraw his earlier petition for restitution of conjugal rights.

Principal Family Court Judge P Devadoss adjourned the hearing on the memo to July 3, following a plea from Prashanth's wife Grihalakshmi to file her objections and seeking time.

When the case came up for hearing, Prashanth and his wife Grahalakshmi were present in the Judge's chamber. Sudha Ramalingam, appearing for Grahalakshmi sought time to file her objections.

In his memo, Prashanth submitted that he had filed a petition for restitution of conjugal rights, which was posted for today for reconciliation. On June 11 he was informed that his wife Grahalakshmi had married one Narayanan Venu Prasad on November 30, 1998 and had registered the said marriage on December 30, 1998 before the Registrar of Marriages, Chennai. These facts had not been disclosed to him either before, during or after the marriage. It was therefore, just and necessary to permit him to withdraw his earlier petition for restitution of conjugal rights.

Meanwhile, Prashanth also filed a counter affidavit, seeking to dismiss the petition filed by Grahalakshmi asking for maintainance.

Originally, Prashanth filed a petition for restitution of conjugal rights. Though, initially, Grahalakshmi had filed a petition seeking Rs one lakh per month as interim maintainance, she subsequently filed another petition, expressing her desire to go back to her husband along with her son. Conciliation meetings were held and the matter was adjourned for today.

In the meantime, Grahalakshmi lodged a complaint with the Commissioner of Police, alleging that Prashanth and his family members had harassed her for dowry. Immediately, Prashanth and his family members moved the Principal Sessions Court and obtained an interim anticipatory bail.
