TN: 7 DPI workers killed as van rams into lorry

Chennai, June 18: Seven members of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) were killed and two injured when the van in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Pattampudhurvilakku Village in Virudhunagar District of Tamil Nadu past midnight last night.

Reports received here said the victims were returning to Madurai from Tirunelveli after attending a ''Right to land'' conference organised by the party last evening.

The tired victims, travelling in a van, were asleep when the incident occurred at around 0030 hrs.

Nine DPI workers were travelling in the van of which seven died on the spot. Manoharan and Subramanian, who were injured, were admitted to a private hospital in Madurai for treatment.
