10-member gang of thieves busted in Kapurthala
Kapurthala, June 18 (UNI) Kapurthala police today busted a 10-member gang of thieves, most of them plumbers and electricians, and recovered 19 stolen electric motors, one country-made pistol and few cartridges from their possession.
Talking to media persons here today, SSP Rakesh Aggarwal said the entire gang, which was active for about eight months, was arrested from an abandoned brick kiln near village Raipur Pirbaksh when they were planning to commit a dacoity in the area.
He said during the preliminary interrogation, the thieves confessed to stealing more than 50 electric motors from the farmhouses during nights after making a recce in a jeep in the day-time.
They said they sold most of the motors at rupees two thousand.
Police was granted two-day police remand of all the accused and it expected some more disclosures from them during the interrogation, the SSP said.
The arrested were identified by police as Lakhwinder Singh, Amandeep Singh,Gurcharan Singh,Baj Singh,Bikramjit Singh, Harpal Singh, Shakeena, Tarsem Singh , Raja and Vijay Kumar all residents of village Chuganwan and Ibrahimwal falling in Kapurthala district.
