UP govt appoints S Balaji as SIT chief

Lucknow, June 17 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today appointed Additional DGP S Balaji as the chief of newly-formed investigation agency Special Investigation Team (SIT).

An announcement to this effect was made by state home department secretary A K Srivastava here.

The agency, with headquarters in the state capital, was constituted on June 13 as an independent investigating agency, on the lines of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to handle serious economic offences against the high and mighty.

Matters recommended by a three-member committee formed under the Principal Secretary Home Department would be proceeded to the team.

The SIT will comprise one Inspector General (IG) or Deputy Inspector General (DIG), two Superintendent of Police (SP), four Deputy SP, ten Police Inspectors, six Sub-Inspectors, 30 constables and a chief.

According to sources, twelve ministerial employees would be appointed to handle the extra work. Besides, one Senior prosecution officer, one prosecution officer and one additional prosecution officer would be appointed to give legal advice to the SIT.

Apart from these, special courts are to be constituted for trial of the SIT cases.
