Purvanchal Varsity VC's house sealed after raid
Varanasi, June 17; A district administration team raided the residence of Purvanchal University Vice Chancellor (VC) K P Singh in the Lanka area here tonight in connection with the CPMT exam episode.
A team of officials led by City Magistrate K N Singh conducted a raid at the Brij En Clave Colony residence of Prof Singh and later sealed the house. At the time of the raid, Prof Singh's servant was present in the house, official sources said.
Earlier in the day, similar raid was conducted at the office of Prof Singh in the Purvanchal University at Jaunpur.
Prof Singh, before assuming the charge of VC was a senior faculty at the Computer Engineering Department of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi.
Students, who appeared in the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) examinations held last month for admission to six UP government medical colleges, had staged violent protests across the state alleging irregularities in the entrance test result announced on June 14. A student had also committed suicide.
The medical aspirant students had demanded the rechecking of all the answer books of the premier medical test of the state.
Taking prompt note of the student unrest, the UP government had stayed the counselling of successful candidates and ordered a probe into the entire matter by a two-member committee.
