Punjab pays Rs 76 cr compensation to farmers

Moga, June 17 (UNI) The Punjab government has paid a sum of Rs 76 crore to State farmers as compensation for their damaged crops at a rate of Rs 5,000 per acre.

Stating this, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Seetal Singh claimed that this was the highest ever compensation paid by the state government to the farmers.

The previous government had paid only Rs 46.28 crore as compensation to farmers during its five year term, Mr Seetal Singh said while presiding over a function organised by the SAD and BJP at Dharamkot last evening to mark the completion of 100 days of the coalition government.

Mr Singh said the Badal government was committed to fulfill all its promises made during the elections and assured the people that the State government would launch 'Atta Dal' scheme on subsidised rates from August 15. A fresh survey of the the poor and below poverty line (BPL) families would be completed soon, he added.

He said the SAD-BJP government was taking various steps to generate more power and setting up new grid sub-stations.
