Governor, Chief Minister greet Goans on eve of Revolution Day

Panaji, Jun 17 (UNI) Governor S C Jamir and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat have recalled the sacrifices of martyrs and freedom fighters for the cause of Goa's freedom on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day, being observed tomorrow.

Governor Jamir in his message said ''June 18 is a significant milestone in the history of Goa. For, it was on this day in 1946, that a peaceful mass movement was started by the people of not only Goa but other parts of our motherland, to liberate the territory from the colonial rule.'' ''The Goa struggle for freedom is considered as one of the greatest in the country which gained a mass momentum on June 18, 1946, when Dr Ram Monohar Lohia, the noted socialist leader plunged himself into it along with a large number of people,'' Chief Minister Karat said.
