BJP demands CBI probe into Sonia Vihar water plant

New Delhi, Jun 17 (UNI) Delhi BJP President Harshvardhan has called for a CBI inquiry into how construction of Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant proved twice as dear.

According to him the plant suffered from fundamental flaws. There were deliberate plans to start construction of the plant without any plan, he alleged. especially over as to how to procure water, the BJP leader stressed, The Government allowed a situation for the corrupt practices to drain the state exchequer.

The BJP leader also cited CAG objections. Even as the plant was constructed in 2004, water didn't flow into the plant until 2006, he added. The machines developed rust during intervening period, according to him. Now the water is being supplied, but the plant does not have the required capacity to treat it, he alleged.

Against the original plan to have 28 underground reservoirs, only ten reservoirs have been constructed, the BJP leader informed.

The absence of reservoirs limits the capacity of the plant to reach out to the target areas. Although the Delhi Government has spent Rs 850 crore, the machines are far too weak to run the full quota of water. If all the treated water were to be released into the pipelines, the pipelines and the volves would burst, he claimed.

The Government owes us an explanation as to how much money has been paid by the Delhi Jal Board for the water, Mr Harshvardhan said.
