'Barish Bima Yojna' launched in Punjab

Patiala, Jun 17 (UNI) Punjab Cooperation Minister Kanwaljit Singh today launched the 'Barish Bima Yojna,' an insurance scheme to compensate the farmers in the state in case of scarcity of rains.

The scheme was launched here today at a function jointly organised by the Cooperative Department and IFFCO-TOKIO, an insurance company.

In case of increase of production cost due to scanty rains, the company would compensate the farmers for their additional expenditure, said Capt Kanwaljit Singh.

The company would operate through cooperative societies in the villages. The scheme had been introduced in Patiala division in the first phase before launching it in the entire Punjab.
