State govt begins drive to enrol girls in schools

Rajkot, June 16 (UNI) The state government has commenced ''Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav'', a special campaign to enrol girls in remote villages.

The campaign is also intended at enrolling boys in the remote villages. Under the campaign, in all 3,554 students including 1,696 girls would get admissions in 101 villages of Wankaner Taluka of the district.

Under the scheme, state government would give 'Vidyalaxmi Bond'' to 555 girls.

Agricultural and Cooperation Additional Secretary Shilaben Benjamin has given admissions to 147 kids at Jambudia Bhayat Primary School, Lakdadhar Primary School, Dhuva Primary School, Sartanpar Primary School and Shatavirda Primary School in Wankaner Taluka, a press release here said.

A 60-year-old woman Benaben of Lakdadhar village was happy when her grand-daughter Komal got admission in the primary school.

She said, ''Our parents had made mistake by not giving education to us, but we do not want to commit the same mistake.'' ''Education is essential for the growth of children,'' she said.

Similar programme was held at Wankaner Taluka where State Information Commissioner Bhagyesh Zha has given admission to 78 students in four schools of the villages.

Literacy rate among girls in the Wankaner taluka is 59.32 per cent, the release said.

Education kits were distributed to the students on the occasion, the release added.
