NET and University of Pennsylvania to exchange students and faculty
Karkala, Karnataka, June 16 (UNI) The Nitte Education Trust (NET), having over 20 educational institutions including Medical, Engineering and Management studies, and University of Pennsylvania, USA today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for exchange of students, faculty and other common mutual interests.
Speaking after signing the MOU, Dr Ram A Cnaan, Associate Dean for Research and Doctoral Education, School of Social Policy and Practice, University of Pennsylvania, said that the University had plans to cover wide range of aspects under the MoU which was a milestone between the two institutions.
As India was on the rise in the world map, the University was aimed at having collaborations with several Indian educational institutions, he added.
He said that the University and Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management (JKSHIM) which had jointly done research on micro-financing would shortly bring out a paper.
Dr Cnaan said that the University which was the oldest in US having over 250 years history founded by Benjamin Franklin felt the urgent need of collaborating with other reputed educational institutions outside the USA for sharing knowledge and intelligence for mutual benefit. Based on this need, the University during the last one decade had gone into collaboration with several reputed educational institutions including in research activities, he added.
Dr M S Moodithaya, the Director of JKSHIM giving the details about the agreement, said that the components of the MoU included exchange of students, faculty between the two institutions besides the collaboration exchange of research activity of mutual common interest and working on organizing conferences. During the year 2007-08 when the NET would celebrate the centenary year celebration of late Justice K S Hegde, the former Lok Sabha Speaker had planned to organise and international conference.
