Allahabad, June 16: Union minister of state for home Sri Prakash Jaiswal said "Naxalism is the outcome of unemployment, hunger and poverty and to combat this, the state government must implement certain unique strategies."

Speaking as chief guest at an inauguration ceremony of a hospital in Allahabad, Mr Jaiswal said states should use the money granted by the centre judiciously to contain Naxalism.

States like Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal have followed an intelligent mechanism to face the menace and are now in a satisfactory position.

Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have failed to utilise the money granted by Centre judiciously and are still grappling with the problem.

On the question of Presidential election, he noted that NDA should favour Pratibha Patil as ''we favoured their candidate last time.'' ''Like Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, Ms Patil is also an intellectual and deserving candidate for the high office,'' he added.

He claimed that terrorism was under control in Jammu and Kashmir, while the number of devotees going to Amarnath had also increased.

Arrangements are also being made to protect Kashmiri pundits in Kashmir, so that they experience a fearless atmosphere in the state.
