Karunakaran welcomes nomination of Pratibha Patil

Thrissur, June 16 (UNI) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader K Karunakaran today, welcomed the decision of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), to nominate Pratibha Patil as its Presidential candidate.

Talking to newspersons here, he said Ms Patil is the best candidate under the present situation in the country.

Mr Karunakaran said Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan should resign, if he had any self-respect in the context of the High Court observation that it had lost confidence in his government.

He said the ministers in the Achuthanandan Cabinet had ''utterly failed'' to run their departments properly.

The ongoing demolition of unauthorised constructions in Munnar was only to gain cheap popularity, he added.
