Hundreds protest construction of boundary wall near IGI Airport

New Delhi, June 16 (UNI) Hundreds of villagers today protested against the construction of a boundary wall near Indira Gandhi International(IGI) Airport which blocked their access to the main road.

The villagers while protesting the blocking of the 'access road', raised slogans against authorities for their ''adamant attitute''.

A large posse of policemen were deployed to prevent any untoward incident as villagers gathered in large numbers led by BJP leader Sahib Singh and removed the ''blockade''.

However, after about two hours of protests and talks with authorities the villagers withdrew.

Police denied television reports of lathicharge. Even demonstrators ruled out any such incident and described the protest absolutely peaceful.

''The whole exercise was peaceful. We just got the blockade removed and with authorities showing a flexible attitude we withdrew for the day.'' More talks are in the pipeline with authorities after which some agreeable solution is likely, he added.

On June 12, at least 20 people, including 12 policemen, were injured in clashes between the police and villagers protesting construction of a boundary wall near Indira Gandhi International Airport. Police had to fire 12 rounds in the air to control the mob.
