Haryana: Rs 392 cr for drinking water in rural areas

Chandigarh, Jun 16 (UNI) The Haryana State Sanitary Board has decided to allocate a sum of Rs 392 crore for providing drinking water supply facilities in the rural areas of the state during the current financial year, besides providing four lakh free water connections to Scheduled Caste households.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of Haryana State Sanitary Board held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

A sum of Rs 80 crore was also allocated for providing drinking water supply and sewerage facilities in urban areas.

The Chief Minister directed the officers of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department that priority should be given to the early completion of the ongoing schemes.

He also directed the officers that the new schemes should be appropriately financed so as to complete these works in a span of two years.

He directed the Commissioner and Secretary, Water Supply and Sanitation that the ongoing works falling in National Capital Region (NCR) should be completed in the next one year.

Mr Hooda also stressed the need for preparing integrated detailed project falling in the NCR area so that maximum funds could be made available in the state through NCR Board.

He asked the officers to arrange additional funds from NABARD for rural drinking water supply projects so as to meet the need of potable water in rural areas.
