Dont spare political parties in demolition drive: CPI

Thiruvananthapuram, June 16 (UNI) Stressing that no favours should be shown to any political party in the ongoing demolition drive in Kerala, the CPI today stated that they were ready to demolish its party offices, if any part of it stood on government lands.

It had been alleged from the very beginning of the drive that the CPI had built its party office in Munnar on encroached land. But if any part of the party office stood on government land, it could be demolished and the land taken over by the government, CPI state secretary Veliyam Bhargavan said in a statement here.

He also reiterated that the party office at Munnar stood at a spot which it bought in 1958, which was not an encroached land.

Stating that the Adivasis and others who had encroached into government land should be spared, Mr Bhargavan said all the large scale encroachments should be evicted.

He also demanded criminal cases against the officials, involved in distributing fake title deeds.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan had this week said offices of political parties and places of worship, even if they were on encroached government land, would not be demolished.
