TRAI to set up fund for Consumers Education and Protection
New Delhi, Jun 15 (UNI) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today said a Telecom Consumers Education and Protection Fund will be set up for the telecom consumers' awarenes, education and for the protection of their interest.
The fund will come under the resolution ''Telecommunication Consumers Education and Protection Fund Regulations, 2007'', released by the TRAI.
It will be used to prevent unjust or undue enrichment of such service providers and educate consumers by utilising the excess amount charged from them.
The fund will undertake programmes to educate consumers about various measures taken by the Centre or TRAI to protect their interests. Seminars and workshops on the subject will also be organised.
The telecom regulatory has estimated that various telecom companies have about Rs 10 crore undisbursed amount accumulated over last ten years.
For making recommendations to the Authority for utilisation of the amount, a committee will be formed.
