New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) The "Compilation", a solo exibition of 28 paintings at India International Centre (Annexe) by Somnath Adhikary represents the magic of contrasting emotions depicted on the canvas.

As an artist and traveller, Adhikary has experienced all these contrasting emotions, in different hues of life, bright or dull, harsh or violent and his paintings truelly mirror his approach towards them.

A down to earth person, Somnath Adhikary is a Gold medalist in Master of Visual Arts from Rabindra Bharti University and honoured with National Scholarship by HRD Ministry, this magician of colours has already had many solo exibitions abroad and 12 major group shows all over India.

In contrast to the current trend of "Message-paintings" and social activism, Adhikary has chosen an expressionist style.

Using plenty of green, red and blue colours to show different moods, he has used acryllic Nepali paper to have freedom of using maximum tones, that brightly leave an imprint on viewer's mind and help them to imagine beyond the obvious.

Despite being an atheist, Somnath has interestingly used the Hindu mythology as a base for his art and has painted 'God Brahma' in a human form with a 'Chakra' to show the race of power in human life.

A Pet Bird, Water God, Fairy, Krishna, Illusion and Virtuous are some of his paintings, which beautifully express human emotions, scarcity of love and hunger and growing insensitivity in our society towards others.

Accepting the fact that his version of expression is not meant for every person, the artist rather seeks people who believe in beauty of classic art and tries to penetrate through their asthetic senses for the appraisal of beauty and nature.
