RPI happy over Dr Pratibha Patil's candidature
Mumbai, June 15 (UNI) Republican Party of India (A) president Ramdas Athavale, MP, today expressed satifaction on the selection of Pratibha Patil as the UPA-Left candidate for the post of President.
Mr Athavale said he was happy to see that a woman from Maharashtra had got the honour of reaching the coveted post.
He recalled that architect of the Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar had tabled the 'Hindu code bill' in Pparliament to give rights to women, which was at that time opposed and rejected by Congress, and other party members.
However, with Dr Patil's candidature, Dr Ambedkar's dream of giving rights to women has been fulfilled.
A couple of days back Mr Athavale had demanded that senior RPI leader and Bihar governor R S Gavai be considered for the post by the UPA.
