Public ransack hospital following death of patient

Jorhat, Jun 15 (UNI) An angry crowd ransacked the Jorhat Civil Hospital this morning following the death of a patient, alleging that the death occurred due to negligence of hospital authorities.

A nurse was manhandled and hospital property damaged by the crowd. They later went to meet the chief minister in this regard, who was in town today.

One Sarupai Kalita of Baligaon, about five km from here, was admitted to the hospital yesterday with diarrhoea.

Trouble started when his family members demanded to see his blood test reports after Kalita died this morning. According to them Kalita had died due to negligence of the hospital staff.

Deputy Superintendent of the Jorhat Civil Hospital Golap Deka, however, maintained that the blood test reports could not be given at that time as those were attached to the patient's file.

The situation was later brought under control.
