Police wounded in yet another gun battle in Nandigram
Nandigram, East Midnapore, June 15 (UNI) A police inspector received gunshot wound and several local people were injured when a gunbattle erupted in Bhangabera under Nandigram police station area between CPI(M) and Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee early today.
East Midnapore Superintendant of Police G Srinivasan District said the clash initially started in Sonachura and then spread to Bhangabera and the nearby places.
Suddenly, the agitated Bhumi Uchhed Protirodh Committee supporters started firing at a nearby police camp, when Prabhat Sarkar, who was in charge of the camp, came out to assess the situation.
He was fired at on his collar bone. The injured officer was immediately rushed to Nandigram Hospital and thereafter transferred to Tamluk District Hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.
The SP said the situation was now under control and more police reinforcement had been sent to the area.
