Police of four states file affidavit regarding Gujjar violence

New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) Four heads of police of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have filed affidavits in the Supreme Court giving details of action taken by them to control the violence caused by Gujjars during their week long agitation for getting scheduled tribe status in Rajasthan like Meenas .

According to the affidavit of A S Gill, DGP (Rajasthan), in all 352 FIRs have been regitered against the offenders and 2081 preventive arrests have been made by the state police. The situation was brought under control by the evening of May 31 following adequate deployment of police, para military forces and the army.

According to the affidavit, 265 accused are in jail and 68 are on bail for offences under sections 147, 148, 149. 302, 307, 325, 283, 332. 353, 395, 397, 435, and 436 of the IPC, and section 3 of Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act 1984.

According to the affidafit filed by H M Meena, DCP (HQ), the Delhi Police made adequate security arrangements and the situation returning to normal wihthin three hours on the day of the Delhi bandh.

In all 1241 persons were detained, nine FIRs were registered and 27 policemen were injured during violence during Delhi bandh.

No death was reported from any part of the city and while controlling the situation only minimum force was used.

The affidavit filed by R S Dalal, DGP (Haryana), said in all nine FIRs were registered after violent incidents from several districts including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Kaithal and Paniapat and there was no loss of life in the state.

The affidavit of Uttar Pradesh Police has also claimed that they made elaborate arrangements to deal with the situation.

The Supreme Court taking suo moto action had on June 5 directed the heads of police of the four states to give details of the action taken or proposed to be taken agaist the agitators who caused large scale damage to public and private property.

The Supreme Court will hear the matter on June 18 and senior advocate Rajiv Dhawan has been appointed as amicus curie.
