Open session on farmer's suicide a good move: Deve Gowda
Bangalore, Jun 15 (UNI) Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda today lauded his son and Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for holding an interactive session of farmers' representatives to discuss the increasing cases of farmers suicide in Karnataka here yesterday.
"The open session of 'assembly of farmers representatives' from each districts of Karnataka, to find out a solution to the vexed issue, is a unique experiment in the participative democracy. This can do away the party politics and helps policy makers to acquaint themselves with the problems of requirements of the affected farmers," he said in a release here.
The JD(S) supremo said that such moves could emerge as a potential way forward for validation of State policy by masses during times when flaws of electoral democracy was increasingly becoming apparent leading to dissatisfaction and disenchantment with the very model of democracy the country was practicing.
"Karnataka has to find a way out to tackle the increasing number of suicides although it pervades not only the jurisdiction of the State but most parts of the country. I am confident Karnataka will bring out a scheme which can be adopted on a National level," Mr Gowda added.
