Man charred to death; Goods worth Rs 50 lakh damaged in fire

Chennai, Jun 15 (UNI) A 46-year-old employee was charred to death when a fire broke out at a private paint manufacturing unit at suburban Kathirvedu yesterday.

According to sources, raw material and finished goods worth Rs 50 lakh were also damaged in the fire.

Fire service sources said 20 fire tender units from various parts of the city rushed to the place and put out the blaze after battling for three hours.

The reason for the fire was due to sudden burst of a chemical cylinder, sources said.

Though the fire was extinguished late last evening, factory authorities found the charred body of Venkatesan, while clearing the debris this morning.

On information, police rushed to the spot and removed the body and sent it for a post-mortem, sources added.
