Karuna indicates inclusion of daughter in UPA

New Delhi, June 15: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today indicated the possible induction of his daughter, K Kanimozhi, in the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre.

''Seyyalaam (We can do it),'' Mr Karunanidhi told reporters in reply to a question on the timing of his next visit to the capital for making his daughter a central minister.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has recently said he would undertake a Cabinet expansion after the Presidential election on July 19.

The DMK supremo's ambivalent reply assumes significance in the light of his introducing Ms Kanimozhi, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, to Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi here last evening.

Asked about the possibility of Tamil Nadu getting the Vice President's post, for which election would be held in August, he said there was still time for the exercise. ''We will sit together and discuss.'' When the question was put again, he said ''Tamil Nadu is part of India.'' Mr Karunanidhi was asked about the newly-released Rajni Kant starrer, Shivaji: The Boss, and the Kalaignar TV getting the telecast rights for the film, instead of the rival Sun TV channel, the largest in the South owned by his grand nephew, Kalanidhi Maran.

He said it was not proper to describe the Sun TV as the rival channel.

Mr Karunanidhi, who saw the premier of Shivaji before coming to the capital on Wednesday, said it was a good film.

Asked about TDP chief N Chandrabhabhu Naidu's invitation to Rajni Kant to join the Third Front, he said everyone was free to join any party.

Mr Karunanidhi, who was here to mediate between the Left parties and the Congress over the choice of the Presidential candidate, was talking to reporters before leaving for Chennai.
