New Delhi, June 15: India's largest private sector lendor ICICI Bank Ltd wants to establish its presence in each of 550 district headquarters in the rural hinterland of the country.

''We cover 80 of the 550-odd districts and are working towards covering the remaining,'' said ICICI Bank Executive Director Madhabi Puri Buch here today.

The bank plans to cover the rural areas, which account for more than 70 per cent of the population, through self-help groups, franchise, internet kiosks and corporate partners.

''We want 80 per cent of the population to reach us without having to travel much,'' Ms Buch told reporters on the sidelines of the bank's FPO.

The bank wants to establish a hub in each of the district headquarters, which would act as a branch after obtaining the neccesary license, she added.
