Haryana acts to ensure protection of wildlife

Chandigarh, June 15 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked Rs 2.3 crore to ensure protection and a secure habitat for wildlife in National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries across the state in the current financial year.

State Minister for Forests and Tourism Kiran Choudhry said that necessary action for improving wildlife habitats would be undertaken in Sultanpur National Park, Kalesar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary at Bhindawas, Bir Shikargah, Nahar in Rewari district, Saraswati in Kaithal district, Bir Bara Ban in Jind district and Berwala in Panchkula Wildlife Sanctuaries.

She said adequate measures would be undertken for water, construction of fences, plantation of fruits and fodder trees, removal of harmful excess weeds and erection of watch towers in these protected areas.

Besides, steps would be taken for development of camping sites, provisions for guided tours and nature education, procurement of necessary equipment for bird watching, creation of nature trails, repair and creation of inspection paths and roads.

The Minister said eco-development activities in villages adjoining protected areas were also being undertaken and also the census of wildlife species of management importance would be carried out.
