Lucknow, June 15 (UNI) Former Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Mohd Azam Khan has been booked under breach of trust charges.

An FIR was lodged at the Kotwali police station in this regard after the seizure of 500 sewing machines and 400 blankets from the Rampur district party office allegedly purchased from District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) funds.

Talking to newspersons this evening, secretary (home) Javed Ahmad said a case was registered against Mr Khan, Rampur Nagar Palika president and others on a written complaint of DUDA executive engineer D K Srivastava.

So far, no arrest had been made and investigations were underway.

In his complaint with the Kotwali police, Mr Srivastava had claimed that departmental employee G K Maurya on December 23, 2006, had facilitated shifting of sewing machines and blankets to the Rampur Jal Nigam office.

Later, jal nigam clerk Santosh had refused to hand over the sewing machines to DUDA for distribution, the complainant added.

Yesterday, when the assistant project officer went to take the possession of the sewing machines, Mr Khan and Santosh started distributing the same along with blankets to women.

Later, when the DM and SSP reached the spot, they had already gone after locking the office.

Meanwhile, Mr Khan claimed that he was clean and there was a conspiracy to defame him.
