New Delhi, Jun 15 (UNI) Five activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), including Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) vice-president, were today detained when they tried to forcibly enter the St Stephen's College premises after holding protest demonstrations against the recent quota announcement.

DUSU vice-president Vikas Dahiya, ABVP general secretary Kapil Garg and three others of the student wing -- Rakesh Sharma, Anand Bhati and Dharmendra, were detained after they tried to perforce their entry into the college to submit a memorandum against the recent announcement of ten per cent quota for Dalit Christians in the college.

Before this, about a hundred-odd activists of the ABVP demonstrated outside St Stephen's College at about 1400 hrs and raised slogans against the reservation -- the first by any college of the Delhi University.

The protestors later clashed with the police after they were stopped for moving ahead to the principal's office leading to the detention of five of them, including two of its leaders.

DCP (North) Devesh Srivastava said five of the demonstrators were detained as a precautionary measure after they forcibly tried to enter the college.

''They will be released in the evening.'' The college had, on June 13, announced the ten per cent quota for Dalit Christians despite strong opposition from faculty members.

Students falling under this category would get admission to the Capital's elite college even if they scored as low as 60 per cent -- the lowest for any course in the college and a taboo for general category aspirants.
