Vijayawada, June 15: CPI(M) leaders and activists, who are on an indefinte hunger strike for the sixth day in front of the Sub-Collector's office, demanding distribution of house site and dwellings for the poor were arrested by the police this morning.

The fasting leaders led by CPI(M) state committee member Ch Babu Rao and 20 activists were arrested, party sources told UNI.

Mr Rao and other leaders were shifted to the government general hospital as their health worsened following the fast undertaken by them.

The sources, however, said the agitation would continue till the Andhra Pradesh government gave a solid assurance on the house sites issue.

Meanwhile, the party would organise a public meeting and form a human chain in the city this afternoon to express its solidarity with the fasting leaders.
