Chickungunya; Medical teams to Mahe region: Valsaraj

Puducherry, June 15 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will soon send a 25-member medical team to Mahe region of the Union Territory following the spread of Chickungunya in neighbouring Kerala, Health Minister E Valsaraj said today.

Distributing 27 fogging machines to the local bodies acquired at a cost of Rs 14 lakh to overcome the mosquito menace here, the minister said there was an apprehension that fogging operation was hazardous to health but not harmful to humans.

The administration was introducing several facilities at the Government General Hospital, he said adding that kidney transplantation facility had become operational and soon a cath lab would be established.

Stating that the Government General Hospital was gradually becoming a model hospital, he said administration would provide 50,000 mosquito nets to the poor here.
