AIRIA to organise Asia's largest rubber expo in '09

Chennai, Jun 15: All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA), the apex body for rubber industries in India, serving the rubber industry and dedicated to promoting the interest and development of the industry, is all set to bring 'India Rubber Expo,' one of the largest Rubber Expo's in the world to Kolkata in January 2009.

The India Rubber Expo (IRE) started its journey in 2001 and since then has received worldwide recognition. The Expo, which has grown tremendously was held in Chennai this year. It was ranked as Asia's largest rubber show and the world's second largest, AIRIA said in a release here today.

The Expo showcased 250 exhibitors from around the world with over 12,000 domestic and foreign visitors visiting the event.

'IRE Kolkata 2009' comes at a time when the country is witnessing a GDP growth of 9.2 per cent per annum and an infrastructure projects at an all time high.

The rubber industry was also witnessing a boom owing to the scorching pace of the automobile industry in India, which is growing above 15 per cent annually.

In 2006, the all India rubber consumption had crossed the 1.1 million tonne mark, the release added.
