1993 blast convict Ejaz Pathan dies

Mumbai, June 15 (UNI) Extradited gangster Ejaz Pathan, who was serving a ten-year jail term for his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, died this morning in the government-run J J Hospital following protracted illness.

Pathan, who was deported from Dubai in 2003 and convicted by the designated TADA court, was suffering from neurological disorders and was admitted in the prison ward of the Arthur Road Jail from where he was shifted to J J Hospital.

A trouble creator in the jail, Pathan was a key conspirator in the blasts and had provided manpower to prime absconding accused Tiger Memon for facilitate landing of arms and ammunition in the coastal district of Raigad prior to the blasts.

Recently he had suffered a paralytic attack and was forced to attend the court in a wheel chair.

Doctor attending on him had advised him to undergo an operation at K E M Hospital in Mumbai for which the State Government had also sanctioned the required fund.

He was recently manhandled by members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang after he shifted loyalties in favour of the Chhota Rajan gang. The 60-year-old deceased convict is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
