Shillong, Jun 14 (UNI) Controversy reigned supreme in Meghalaya as allegations and counter allegations hurled among the politicians after a public hearing on uranium mining, as Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council chief Hispreaching Son Shylla being the latest target.

State urban affairs minister and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) leader Paul Lyngdoh today demanded Shylla's resignation to counter latter's challenge to former to quit the ruling Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government as a fallout of controversial on hearing.

Mr Lyngdoh said Mr Shylla should quit the post of Chief Executive Member of KHADC after he failed to convince the people to allow the Uranium Corporation of India Limited to mine nuclear ores in West Khasi Hills district.

"He has failed to carry his party (Congress) even on this issue and he should own moral responsibility and quit the present position", the former Khasi Student's Union leader turned politician told UNI here.

Mr Lyngdoh said the Congress which is leading the multi-party coalition government even agreed to his party's suggestion to form an all-party panel to examine the pros and cons of uranium mining.

''KHNAM will not quit coalition government as the MDA debated on every issue before taking any decision, that's why the MDA had decided to constitute an all-party panel on Uranium mining before taking a decision on such sensitive issue, concerns human lives,'' the Urban affairs minister said.

Alleging KHNAM for indulging in anti-government on uranium issue, KHADC Chief Mr Shylla said "It is really surprising that the KHNAM legislators even after indulging themselves in anti-government activities still have no shame to remain in the government.'' Mr Shylla said KHNAM extending moral support to the KSU agitations had caused miseries to the people.
