Survey launched to identify villages for WB water scheme
Chandigarh, Jun 14 (UNI) The Punjab Government today launched village-wise survey of all the 20 districts to identify and prioritise the villages to be covered by World Bank-funded ambitious Rs 1280 crore Rural Water Supply Scheme.
In a high-level meeting held here today Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bikram Singh Majithia reviewed and finalised the conceptual plan of the project.
The Minister constituted "field teams" headed by Superintending Engineers, who in liaison with local MLAs would identify the villages and motivate the panchayats to participate in this development-oriented programme.
The identified villages would be prioritised keeping in view availability of resources and locational advantage in the work hubs, Mr Majithia said.
The Minister said that vigilance teams at village level and Superintending Engineers would stricltly monitor the quality of project being executed .
The Minister directed Project Director Raj Kamal Choudhary to set up a control room at the Headquarter to periodically monitor the progress of the project and said he himself would conduct a fortnightly meeting to review this project.
