Samsung aims to tap 20% of premium segment with Metal Series

New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Mobile phone maker Samsung Telecommunications India (STI) today launched three GSM phones in its Metal Series to capture a 20 per cent share in the premium segment in India.

The company introduced the slimmest slider phone from its high-end Metal Series SGH E840 at Rs 12,049 and two more GSM handsets SGH D900i and SGH D840, costing Rs 14,899 and Rs 13,499 respectively.

Samsung will import the metallic silver cased phones equipped with multimedia features initially but plans to manufacture them at its Manesar plant in the next six months.

With a 6.5 per cent share in the GSM segment, Samsung aims to focus in the mid-level and high-end of the mobile market.

''We plan to capture a double digit share in this fiscal,'' company General Manager (Marketing-GSM) Asim Warsi told reporters here.

On a poser to whether the company plans to up the production, he said: ''We do not plan any upgradation as our plant is competent to produce these handsets.'' Samsung has a plant at Manesar with a production capacity of 1.5 million sets.

The company has no plans to enter the low price phone sector or the monochrome segment. ''Our lowest priced phone at Rs 2,000 is a colour phone. It was an intentional move not to enter this sector as we want to provide the best features at an affordable price,'' Mr Warsi added.

SGH E840 is the world's slimmest slide-up metallic phone, equipped with high-end multimedia features like 2 mega pixel (MP) camera, FM Radio, MP3 player, Mobile printing, document viewer and a 70 MB internal memory with expandable microSD T flash external memory (up to 2GB).

SGH D900i has a three MP camera with dynamic user interfaces, vivid 262K color screen, Bluetooth stereo headset, FM Radio, New camera UI, enhanced battery life and speedy shutter.

SGH D840 comes with a MP3 player with integrated dual speaker, multi-format music player for music on Bluetooth stereo headsets wirelessly alongwith 80 MB of internal memory and external microSD memory.

All these phones are secured with mobile tracker technology, emergency SMS alert along with privacy lock.
