Prez poll: Contest between son of soil, 'bahu' of Rajasthan

New Delhi, Jun 14 (UNI) The July 19 Presidential election is set to boil down to a contest between the 'son of the soil' and the 'bahu' of Rajasthan.

While Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil was chosen as the UPA-Left candidate today, Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is likely to contest the election as an independent, supported by the NDA, which has convened a meeting for June 18 for announcing its position.

Both the Vice President and the Rajasthan Governor share a surname, Shekhawat, as Mrs Patil is married to Dr Devisingh Ramsingh Shekhawat, hailing from Rajasthan.

While Mrs Patil is the Governor of Rajasthan, the Vice President has been the Chief Minister of that state thrice.
