Improved crop insurance scheme to be implemented
Hyderabad, June 14 (UNI) An improved crop insurance scheme with villages as unit for assessment of crop damage will be implemented in five more districts in Andhra Pradesh from this Khariff season, Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy said today.
Addressing a press conference here, the Minister said the scheme would cover paddy crop in the districts of Vizianagaram, East Godavari and West Godavari, groundnut in Kurnool district and maize in Medak district.
It may be noted that the pilot scheme was introduced last year in the districts of Karimnagar, Mahboobnaar, Anantapur and Prakasam.
From now onwards, Maize crop would be covered under the improved crop insurance scheme in Mahboonagar instead of castor, the Minister said.
Maintaining that there was no shortage of seeds in the state, he said 39.11 lakh tonnes of seeds and 33.59 lakh tonnes of fertilizers were kept ready for distribution.
The government had decided to increase the quantum of compensation for farmers hit by hailstorms from Rs 600 per acre during the previous TDP regime to Rs 900 per acre, he informed.
