High court forms 3-member committee to probe Tihar deaths

New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today constituted a three-member committee to inquire into the seven deaths which occurred within a span of eight days, in Asia's largest prison, Tihar Jail.

A vacation bench comprising Justices J P Singh and S Muralidhar formed a three-member committee headed by Delhi High Court registrar (vigilance) R K Gauba with Additional Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Seema Maini and Vice president, Delhi High court bar association J P Singh as members.

The committee would visit the jail tomorrow and talk to the authorities there besides the inmates to ascertain certain facts relating to the deaths.

The court will hear the matter on June 18.

Earlier on Friday, the court had issued notices to Delhi Government and the Tihar Jail authorities seeking replies for the cause of deaths in such mysterious circumstances.

A social worker had filed a Public Interest Litigation seeking improvement in the jail's conditions as seven deaths had occurred since June 6.
