HC issues notice to Punjab govt on Chahal's petition
Chandigarh, June 14 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice to the Punjab government for tomorrow on a writ petition filed by B I S Chahal, media advisor to former chief minister Amarinder Singh, seeking transfer of the probe into the case against him to the CBI.
The petition came up for hearing before a Division Bench of Justice S S Saron and Justice Arvind Kumar.
The petition, filed under Article 226 of the Constitution, also sought directions to protect the plaintiff from ''torture'' by Vigilance Bureau officials and Punjab Police.
A copy of the writ petition was also handed over to the counsel for the Punjab government present in the court.
Chahal was arrested by the Punjab Police in a land grabbing case on June 10 and was sent to judicial custody till June 27.
