'Govt hospitals in Patna not paying attention to poor patients'

Patna, June 14 (UNI) Women power once again came to the fore when two women committed themselves to uplift the down trodden in the poverty-stricken areas of Bihar, and vowed to ensure better medical facilities for them.

Rekha Modi, cousin of deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, and Parveen Amanullah, wife of Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah, showed their resilience in fighting for the people, who are working in the slums here, by sensitising them on family planning and other health-related issues.

Speaking to UNI here today, the duo, highlighting their mission for the uplift of the oppressed-ignorant class, said, ''We want hospitals to work honestly so that due attention is given to the patients.'' Ms Modi said she had heard stories about PMCH staffs negligence and callousness. In fact, the duo had to face a lot of obstacles by none other than the doctors of the PMCH when they tried to know the expenditure of various medical amenities of the hospital for the last financial year under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

After going through the replies of the hospital authorities, Ms Modi alleged that funds were being misused by the medical superintendent.

When approached, hospital medical superintendent Dr O P Chaudhry refused to make any comment on the issue before mediapersons.

The duo was of the opinion that their routine visit to PMCH and 'callousness' of doctors towards patients brought them into social service. They alleged that during their 'rounds' to the hospital they found that poor patients were not being treated properly, senior doctors were not serious towards their job and free medicine programme of the government was non-existent.

''We had visited various primary health centres(PHCs), including Rajendar Nagar and Gardiner road PHCs. To our dismay we found there were heartless dealings with the poor patients there,'' they alleged.
