DVC to invest Rs 23051 crore for more power generation

Kolkata, Jun 14 (UNI) Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) will invest Rs 23051 crore to increase its power generation capacity by 6300 MW during the 11th plan period.

While speaking to newspersons here today, DVC CEO Ashim Burman said Rs 16136 crore would come as debt from various financial institution, including banks, and power finance corporations, while the rest Rs 6915 crore would be from internal approval.

''Currently, DVC's total generation capacity is around 2210 MW,''Mr Burman added.

Of the total 6300 MW, 4800 MW would be DVC's own production while the rest 1500 MW would be generated from Maithon Power Limited, DVC's joint venture (JV) with Tata Power and Bokaro Power Supply Company Limited , a JV with SAIL.

The other projects, which had been planned in the 11th plan period, apart from the JV projects, are Mejia Thermal Power Station- phase II (1000 MW), Koderma Thermal Power Station (1000 MW), Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Station (1000MW), Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station-phase I (1200 MW) and Bokaro Thermal Power Station (1100 MW).

All the Thermal Power Stations would be operational by 2010.

The company had already got Cabinet approval for the Ragunathpur Power project. The first phase of the project, which will have two units with 600 MW capacity each, would be operational by 2010.

The DVC's total power production, from all the projects during 2010-11 would be 9510 MW.
