Commonwealth Games Village to have Water Harvesting: DDA VC

New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Water harvesting techniques would be employed in the Commonwealth Games village which will house about 8,000 athletes, DDA Vice Chairman Dinesh Rai today said.

Participating in the meeting of the Consultative Committee attached to the Urban Development Ministry, the nodal agency to make preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games here, Mr Rai said about one lakh people from within and outside the country, were expected to come to the capital to watch the opening ceremony of the Games.

Adequate provision for accommodation of participants were being made. While one-third of the flats to be built for the purpose would be returned to the DDA, the remaining would be retained by the developers after the Games were over, he said.

He said 8,000 athletes would be accommodated in the Games village and each room had twin sharing.

Earlier, former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler drew the attention of the meeting, chaired by Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, towards 'bad shape' of the approach roads to various stadia and demanded the roads should be rebuilt in tune with the modernisation.

Besides he also wanted proper renovation of the stadia and development of greenery surrounding them.

Mr Reddy said that the Ministry would soon organise a visit for the Members of the Consultative Committee to various Commonwealth Games sites to have first hand information about the preparations.
