Chahal to stay in jail till June 27

Ludhiana, June 14 (UNI) The high profile former media advisor to former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, B I S Chahal was today sent to judicial custody till June 27.

Chahal was produced before Civil Judge (senior division) Tarsem Mangla who after hearing the arguments of the defense and procesution counsels, remanded Chahal to 14 days judicial custody till June 27.

Besides Chahal, the others who were remanded to judicial custody till June 27 were Kartar Singh and his three sons, Jagdish Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Jaswinder Singh and his grandson Harjinder Singh. Chahal's son is married to the daughter of Jagdish Singh. Their three day police remand expired today.

Iqbal Singh, another grandson of Kartar Singh who was also named in the case registered on June 10 at the Sadar police station here was sent to judicial custody on June 11 for 14 days. He was remanded to a juvenile home as he was below 18 years of age.

The case against Chahal and his associates was registered under sections 307, 452, 447, 379, 148 and 149 of the IPC.

The case was registered on the complaint of a farmer of Daad village near here, who alleged that Chahal and his associates had threatened and beaten him in October last year after he resisted their attempts to occupy his land, worth several crores of rupees.

Chahal and the others were arrested soon after the registeration of the case.

The Punjab Police has filed two more cases of fraud and cheating against Chahal at Patiala in the last two days. The police had yesterday recovered four licensed firearms from Chahal's private residence at Patiala.
