Centre: No harassment to Kashmiris;advisories issued to states

Srinagar, Jun 14 (UNI) The Centre today said it has sensitised all states and issued advisories to the authorities that students and business community of Jammu and Kashmir staying there should not be put into any hardship while dealing with law and order situation.

''Arrests out of due course of law should not happen and there should be no room for perception,'' Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta told a news conference here.

He said Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has also taken up the issue with his counterparts of other states.

The Union Home Secretary also said that under a pilot project in certain areas of 12 states, Multipurpose National Identity Cards were being issued to more than 26 lakh youth with 18 years of age in the first instance.

The areas include Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.

After ascertaining the success of the project, Mr Gupta said the process would be carried forward.
