Agartala, Jun 13 (UNI) About 700 surrendered extremists of different banned outfits in Tripura have threatened to launch an agitation demanding proper rehabilitation.

Earlier, the leaders had met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and submitted a memorandum, demanding the grant of packages at par with those given to surrendered Kashmiri militants.

''Each surrendered militant in Kashmir receives Rs three lakh as fixed deposit for three years and Rs 20 lakh provided for their rehabilitation but we are getting only Rs three and a half lakh,'' they pointed out.

Apart from financial deprivations, the surrendered militants often face court summons and police action despite withdrawal of cases against them.

''Only when they are get warrant letters from the courts after three - four months or a year, they are compelled to resume insurgency,'' they said adding that it was essential that Government offer should look genuine to the insurgents willing to surrender.

Two major militant outfits - National Liberation Front of Tripura(NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force(ATTF) had been fighting for independent tribal homeland within the state territory, using the bases in Bangladesh.
