Nirupam Sen inaugurates steel plant at Samraipur

Midnapur, June 13: An Integrated Steel Plant with a capacity of 1 Million Ton was inaugurated this morning at Samraipur near Kharagpur by West Bengal Minister for Commerce and Industries Nirupam Sen.

''Such Industries are the only answer for solving unemployment problem in this arid zone of West Midnapur District like here,'' Mr Sen said.

Sanjjan Kumar Patoary, Managing Director said that the plant had been erected on 100 acres of Land here and with an investment of 14000 crores of rupees the industry went into operation right from today.

While in the first phase .3 MT would be the turnover, another .7 MT would be added at a later stage. This would provide employment to 5000 people, the MD added.

The technology adopted had been received from TATA Refractories and SSIT China. Initially PIG Iron and Steel Billets would be produced.Prospective buyers would be from West Bengal, Orissa, Asom and Foreign countries, the management said.

The Patoaries had already built up a Sponge Iron Plant in Jhargram earlier.
