K'taka urges for High Speed Railway Corrider

Bangalore, June 13 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure B Sreeramulu today said that the state government has urged the Railway Ministry to provide a High Speed Railway Corridor between Mysore-Bangalore, Hubli-Bangalore and Hubli-Pune before implementation of such a project with Chennai and Kerala.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that the implementation of High Speed Passenger Corridors, particularly from Hubli, would be of much help to the people of North Karnataka for traveling to Bangalore in just two hours.

Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy has already written to the Railway Ministry on the matter and it has agreed to take up the feasibility study very soon, he added.

He said that Delhi Metro Rail Managing Director E Shreedharan met him today to discuss about High Speed Rail link for the new Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli. The project details were worked out and a survey and feasibility studies were being conducted, he added.

After completion of the project, it would take just 23 minutes for the passengers to reach the International Airport from the Cricket Staduim in the city, he said adding that the frequency would be of every five minutes with a luggage checking facilities at the departure point and Hebbal stations.

The Minister said that the project would take more than two years for its completion once commissioned. First round meeting has been convened on June 15, he added.

He said that the state government had modified the architecture design of the International airport following the suggestions from Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel and it had urged him to open Airport in April 2008 after closing the HAL airport.
