Heatwave claims 29 lives, pre-monsoon showers lash MP
Bhopal, June 13 (UNI) Pre-monsoon showers in the Madhya Pradesh capital and several other locations across the state brought partial relief to people exposed to heat wave for about a fortnight, though hot weather conditions prevailed in the northern region, killing 29 people so far.
Rains lashed several places last night. Many trees were uprooted and roofs blown off by squalls in the rural areas of Panna district last night. A woman and a three-year-old boy were injured.
''Clouds are dense over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
Precipitation is possible across the state over the next 24 hours. The southwest monsoon is likely to break over Madhya Pradesh in the next couple of days,'' said Regional Meteorological Centre Director D P Dubey.
Last year, the monsoon arrived on June 29, way behind schedule.
The highest temperature was at 46 degrees Celsius in Datia and Sheopur Kalan. Overnight rainfall figures were measured at 5 cm in Multai, 4 cm each in Jabalpur and Narsinghpur and 3 cm each in Amla and Satna.
The district-wise toll was 10 in Tikamgarh, eight in Shivpuri, seven in Sheopur, three in Morena and one in Bhind.
