3 lieutenants of Dawood sentenced, brother acquitted
Mumbai, June 13 (UNI) Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court today sentenced 3 lieutenants of mafia fugitive Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar to rigorous imprisonment (RI) ranging from 5 to 7 years and acquitted the don's brother Iqbal Kaskar in the infamous case of illegal construction of twin Sara and Sahara shopping complexes in south Mumbai.
The court also acquitted 4 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officers of all charges levelled against them in the case.
Pronouncing the verdict in a jampacked court room here this afternoon, MCOCA Judge Mridula Bhatkar held accused -- Abdul Rehman Abdul Gafoor Shaikh alias Rehman Boss (45), Abdul Sattar Baji Jivabhai Radhanpura alias Sattar Teli (55) and deported Tariq Abdul Karim Merchant alias Tariq Praveen (38) -- guilty under the stringent Act.
Sheikh was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 14,05,000 in default of which he will have to undergo further RI for six months. Radhanpura and Tariq Praveen were sentenced to five years RI and a fine of Rs 10,05,000 each in default which they will also have to undergo further RI for six months, Judge Bhatkar pronounced.
However, Iqbal Kaskar, younger brother of Dawood, and four BMC officers -- Narendra Ramlochan Rajbhar (43), Hasmukh Pravinchandra Shah (52), Kiran Vasant Acharekar (43) Shirish Madhukar Salvekar (43) and Gulam Nabi Ramran Tanwar (60) -- were acquitted by the court on all counts levelled against them.
